WhatsApp has just submitted a new update through the TestFlight beta Program, bringing the version up to 23.16.1.72. The version marked within WhatsApp Settings is 2.23.16.72 and the TestFlight build is 23.16.1 (501742930).
What’s new in this update? WhatsApp is rolling out an animated avatar feature, and it is available to some beta testers!

ANIMATED AVATAR PACK
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.16.12 update, we announced a new feature available to some beta testers: animated avatars. With this feature, WhatsApp finally provides users with an animated version of their avatar pack. After installing the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.16.1.72 update from the TestFlight app, some beta testers may be able to see animated avatars within the avatar tab!
As you can see in this video, you need to open the keyboard and select the avatar tab to check if the feature is enabled for your account. In case it is available, you should be able to see some animations for certain avatars. It’s important to note that you can already share those animated avatars to anyone as it’s not needed to use the beta version to be able to receive them. In addition, only a limited number of stickers are animated, but we expect that WhatsApp may offer an animated version of the entire avatar pack over time.
The animated avatar packs are a big improvement that adds a dynamic touch to avatars. This is especially exciting for users who frequently use this feature, as it enhances their expressive communication experience in a much better way. In our opinion, expressing emotions becomes more fun and engaging for everyone when sending these new animated avatar stickers!
