REQUEST REVIEW

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.25.9 update, we announced that WhatsApp is currently working on a new feature to allow channel owners to request a review for their suspended channel. This enhancement makes the process more transparent as channel owners will be able to seek clarification and address any potential violations more effectively. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.25.10 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered further improvements in development regarding this feature:

As you can see in this screenshot, WhatsApp is working on allowing channel owners to specify a reason when requesting a review for their suspended channel. This additional layer of information not only improves the review process but also provides valuable insights for WhatsApp moderators, facilitating a quicker and more accurate assessment of the situation. At the moment, we discovered that channel owners will be able to select one of the following options in a future update of the app:

  1. Some updates were misunderstood: this option allows channel owners to clarify that certain updates or content were misinterpreted.
  2. This channel follows all Channel Guidelines: channel owners can state that their content adheres to WhatsApp’s guidelines, emphasizing compliance to address any potential oversights or errors in the suspension, since it could have been automated by an algorithm.
  3. Updates like these should be allowed: when the channel owner believes that the suspended content is within acceptable boundaries and aligns with WhatsApp’s policies, this option allows them to express this viewpoint explicitly.
  4. This channel shouldn’t be closed: if the channel owner thinks their suspension is unfair or there are special circumstances, they can select this option to ask for a second look. In addition, this option is a simple general way for channel owners who may be unsure why their channel got suspended.

In our opinion, one significant advantage of allowing channel owners to select a reason when requesting a review for their suspended channel is the enhancement of communication and clarity in the content moderation process. When channel owners can share a specific reason for seeking a review with the moderator team, it will definitely provide valuable context to restore the channel.

A feature to select a review reason for suspended channels is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. As always, we are going to publish another article when we have further details regarding this feature to share with you.
