MUTED STATUS UPDATES

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.21.1.72 update, we announced the ability to collapse the section listing recommended channels for those users who do not follow any channel. With this decision, WhatsApp aimed to listen to user feedback by removing the clutter and providing a cleaner Updates tab for those people who choose not to follow channels. While the option to collapse the recommended channels section has already been available through certain previous updates of WhatsApp beta for Android, we just discovered that WhatsApp is introducing further changes for the status updates list by restoring the muted status updated section!

As you can see in this screenshot, the muted status updates section is available in the main Updates tab again for those users who do not follow any channels. When WhatsApp introduced channels within the new Updates tab, muted status updates were removed from this section in favor of channels. Since there are users who prefer not to follow channels, the decision to remove the list of muted status updates from this tab by introducing a new entry point within the three-dot menu, has definitely affected the user experience. After installing the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.24.11 update from the Google Play Store, which also brings a redesigned app info screen, the ability to view muted status updates is located within the main Updates tab again.

We believe that restoring the muted updates list in the main Updates tab without opening a new section offers a significant advantage since it enhances the overall user experience. By bringing back the muted status updates section to the main Updates tab, WhatsApp is effectively eliminating the extra step of opening a different section from the three-dot menu, making it more convenient for users to access their muted status updates again and enabling them to quickly access the information they want. In our opinion, it is also evident that WhatsApp really cares about user feedback, even from users who have opted not to follow any channels.

The tweaked interface for the Updates tab is available to some beta testers who install the latest WhatsApp beta for Android updates from the Google Play Store, and it is rolling out to even more people over the coming weeks.
