SECRET CODE

In the article about the WhatsApp for Android 2.23.21.8 update, we posted some information regarding a new feature in development: a secret code for locked chats. In fact, thanks to the previous update, we discovered that WhatsApp has plans to provide users with a new feature to allow them to choose a custom password for their protected chat folder, bringing to the app another layer of security. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.21.9 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered further details regarding this feature!

As you can see in this screenshot, WhatsApp is working on a new page to allow users to create a secret code for their protected chat folder, and it will be available in the future. Thanks to this new section, we discovered useful information regarding the secret code. Specifically, entering a secret code will allow users to easily find locked chats even in the search bar of the app. In addition, configuring a secret code will allow users to lock chats even from companion devices. As noted in the creation form, WhatsApp suggests using a word or a simple emoji for quick access.

In our opinion, the development of this feature is taking a very positive direction. Over the past few months, many users complained about the lack of support for locked chats on companion devices, as it seemed that WhatsApp released an incomplete feature. However, this was because companion devices may not support an authentication feature to lock the protected chat folder, which caused some confusion among users. Thanks to the secret code, WhatsApp will offer users the ability to synchronize chat locks across all their linked devices, and this will significantly improve the user experience.

The secret code creation feature for locked chats with support for linked devices is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. As always, we are going to publish a new article when we have further details regarding this feature to share with you.
