YouTuber Colleen Ballinger uploaded a new video four months after she posted her controversial ukulele apology video. In the said ukulele video, she denied those accusing her of grooming underage fans through singing. The YouTuber received heavy criticism for responding that way to a serious allegation and for not offering any additional information to back up her claims. Now, Colleen Ballinger is back and wants to get back into vlogging.
Ballinger’s returns to YouTube
In her new 13-minute video titled “fall vlog,” posted on her second channel Colleen Vlogs, Ballinger addressed the infamous ukulele video saying it was “really embarrassing.”
“Obviously, the last video that I posted on here is really embarrassing, to say the least,” Ballinger said. “I was being accused of some pretty awful things and I just was mad and I should have handled that situation with maturity and empathy, but instead I just let my ego take over and I’m really disappointed in myself.”
Ballinger also responded to the grooming allegations in this video, stating that throughout her career, there were times when she acted “immature” and “inappropriate” with some of her comedy.
“Over the last 15 years of my career, there have been moments where I was immature and inappropriate with some of my comedy. And there were times when I did not put enough thought into my fan interactions. And because of that behavior, people got hurt, and I am so sorry. I never wanted to hurt anybody, but it’s clear that I did and I feel so terrible about that.”
Later in the video she expressed her desire to return to vlogging content on YouTube and doesn’t expect to be welcomed back onto the platform.
“I do not expect anyone to welcome me back with open arms. I don’t expect to change anyone’s mind with this video. I just wanted to come on here and say that I’m sorry,” she said.
She then finished out the rest of the video vlogging while doing various things around her home. She has since posted three other vlogs to her second channel.
The reaction
Currently, Ballinger new apology video sits with a 45K to 131K like to dislike ratio. The main criticism of Ballinger’s new apology is that it barely touches on the allegations she’s facing. Creator MoistCr1TiKaL, who has been covering Ballinger’s allegations since they first surfaced, said in a recent video, “In my opinion, you’re just giving a very vague response to a very specific set of awful allegations. By just delivering this blanketed ‘I want too far with my comedy, made some mistakes, hurt people, I’m sorry’ you’re not really doing anything besides just trying to move on from this as quickly as possible and hope that the bare minimum here is enough for an audience to stick with you.”
In the comment section of Ballinger’s video seemed to be mixed. While many express their shock, some offer their support for the creator, while others want her to take more accountability than what her apology gives.
For now, it appears that Balinger is set to continue making vlog content. And although most of her new vlogs have a higher dislike to like ratio, she is still pulling in roughly the same views pre-controversy.
