PROTECT IP ADDRESS IN CALL
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.18.15 update and the WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.20.1.73 version, we announced a new feature under development: the protect IP address in call option. With this feature, users can add an extra layer of security to their calls by protecting their IP address and location from malicious actors. Thanks to the latest updates of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app and WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out the new privacy call relay feature to some beta testers!
As you can see in this screenshot, there is a new section called “Advanced”, placed within the privacy settings screen. This new section contains the new protect IP address in call option, which makes it definitely harder for anyone in the call to infer your location by securely relaying through WhatsApp servers. It’s very important to note that the call quality may be slightly affected with the privacy call relay feature because of the encryption and routing processes of your connection during a call through WhatsApp servers.
We believe this feature is highly beneficial against any potential attempts to track your location and IP address, especially when you’re in a WhatsApp call with unknown contacts, as it makes it much harder for anyone to track private information. Despite the possibility of a slight reduction in call quality, this additional security layer guarantees the preservation of your privacy, even when communicating with unknown contacts you’re not very familiar with.
The new privacy feature to protect the IP address in calls is available to some beta testers who install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store and WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app, and it is rolling out to more users over the coming days.
