BLUE CHECKMARK

After announcing a feature that will allow users to reply to channel updates with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.10.6 update, WhatsApp keeps working on enhancing channels by implementing small tweaks. As many users may know, verified channels on WhatsApp are marked with a green checkmark, ensuring their authenticity. However, thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.20.18 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp has plans to replace it with a different checkmark.

As you can see in this screenshot, WhatsApp plans to replace the green checkmark with a blue one, in a future update of the app. In addition, we discovered that this change will also apply to verified businesses. We think that this is not so surprising, especially considering the recent announcement shared by Mark Zuckerberg regarding the ability for businesses on WhatsApp to subscribe to Meta Verified in the future, which would give them a verification badge and several advantages, like protection from impersonation and dedicated tech support.

At the moment, the details about replacing the green verification badge with a blue checkmark are quite limited, so all we can do is speculate. In reality, we believe that Meta wants to standardize the verification badge color across all its apps, as the verification checkmark is blue on both Instagram and Facebook. By changing the current verification badge color to blue, WhatsApp would align the icon with Meta’s branding and create a consistent visual verified identity across other Meta platforms. It’s worth noting that the introduction of this new blue badge doesn’t necessarily imply an automatic extension of Meta Verified to WhatsApp channels, as they may just want to focus on unifying the badge’s appearance across the Meta family of apps.

The blue checkmark for verified channels and businesses is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. As always, we will publish a new article when we have further information to share with you.
